The Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter, 1972 as Amended (London Convention), was adopted in quadruplicate at London, Mexico City, Moscow and Washington on 29 December 1972 and entered into force on 30 August 1975. The 1996 Protocol to the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter (London Protocol) was adopted in London on 7 November 1996 and entered into force on 24 March 2006.
