TV_TTO_Trinidad_Bonasse_bathing_beach_water_quality_2014
A bacteriological water quality survey was conducted during the period 23 April, 2014 to 22 July, 2014 along the coastline at Cedros Bay on the southwest coast of Trinidad, from Bonasse Village to Fullerton Village, Cedros. Bonasse Beach and Fullerton Beach are used for recreational activities by beach-goers and both are also fish landing sites. Fifteen (15) sampling stations were located nearshore along Cedros Bay, from Bonasse Village to Fullerton Village. Nine (9)stations were also established at two rivers, at a stream and at six drains which discharged into nearshore waters and were potential sources of pollution for this section of Cedros Bay. Water samples were collected on five occasions at the 15 nearshore stations, as well as at 9 potential sources of pollution. Faecal coliforms, Escherichia coli and enterococci bacteria were used as indicators of possible faecal contamination or water pollution from sewage

TV_TTO_Trinidad_Caroni_Swamp_Macrobenthic_Abundance_2015
Human pressures have placed many tropical estuaries in developing countries under increased levels of stress. The Caroni Swamp Ramsar Site, the largest mangrove swamp along the west coast of Trinidad, has been subjected to high levels of anthropogenic impacts including hydrological alteration and pollution from land-based sources since the 1920’s. While most of these impacts have been well documented, limited information exists on the macrobenthic communities in the swamp. This study addresses the paucity of information. The macrobenthic fauna in the main waterways of Caroni Swamp was sampled at 12 locations using a Van Veen 0.025 m2 grab, once in the dry (April) and wet (August) season of 2015 with a total of 144 samples.

This dateset displays beaches around the island of Barbados. This dataset began with a compilation of various datasets, supplemented with any original digitization efforts. This information was then checked against high resolution satellite imagery where available from Bing and Esri imagery basemaps. Errors and misrepresentations in the base information were modified through heads up digitization from the high resolution imagery. Omissions of coverage were corrected by creating new polygons to match visible beaches.

CLME: Caribbean Spiny Lobster Distribution and Stock Structure
The Caribbean spiny lobster, Panulirus argus (hereafter referred to as spiny lobster or lobster), is distributed in the subtropical western Atlantic from Bermuda and the east coast of the USA from North Carolina, to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, including the entire Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, from shallow waters to depths up to 100 m.
Combining this layer with a land file will provide an approximate representation of distribution.
Although it is difficult to define the different lobster stock units due to their long larval phase across wide areas of open ocean before settling in a suitable habitat, doing so is necessary if this internationally important fishery is to be managed effectively, however dividing line between stocks are not has defined in reality as they appear in the shapefile. Classification of the stock structure improves with additional research.

TV_TTO_Trinidad_Caroni_Swamp_Macrobenthic_Survey_Physical_Parameters_2015

The bacteriological water quality and physio–chemical parameters were measured along the popular Chaguaramas Peninsula in western Trinidad, to evaluate bathing beach water quality and identify possible sources of sewage contamination. Three bacterial indicators were chosen for this study (Escherichia coli, enterococci and faecal coliform), and were analysed by membrane filtration in accordance with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) protocol. The physio–chemical parameters collected were pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, salinity, and rainfall. Samples were collected at six nearshore locations during the months of July/August, 2016 (wet season) and January/February, 2017 (dry season).

TM_BELIZE_Mangrove_100.000_2010
This dataset depicts fragmentation and resiliency of Belize's national mangrove cover in 2010, based on satellite-based mapping of Belize's mangroves for 1980, 1989, 1994, 2000, 2004, and 2010, and based on the earlier work of Simon Zisman (1998). Fragmentation was analyzed by identifying mangrove patches which had been reduced in size within the period analyzed. Based on that, a fragmentation history was compiled, and risk was estimated based off that history. In addition to the fragmentation history, an index of patch irregularity (related to the perimeter and area) was also developed. Resiliency was also identified based on identification of mangroves which had regrown after clearance. This data was developed for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)'s Mesoamerican Reef program in July 2010.

Faecal contamination of recreational waters is of major public health concern and therefore continuous monitoring of water quality is essential. The microbial water quality and physio– chemical parameters at the popular Maracas Beach, Trinidad were measured using multiple microbial indicators to determine faecal contamination levels and identify possible sources of pollution. The indicators chosen for this study were Escherichia coli, enterococci and faecal coliform and water samples were collected at five nearshore locations during the months of February/March 2017 (dry season) and July/August 2016 (wet season) at varying tidal periods.

TV_TTO_Trinidad_Caroni_Swamp_Macrobenthic_Richness_2015

BM-BRB_Road Infrastructure - 2001 - 1:10000
The Barbados road network was digitized from the 1:10000 (12 sheets) topographic maps produced by the Directorate of Overseas Surveys, Ordnance Survey, United Kingdom 1986. Each topographic map was scanned and registered to the Barbados National Grid and then reprojected to WGS84 Zone 20 before digitizing. Digitization was preformed in ArcGIS 8.3 and enhanced with the ArcScan extension. IKONOS imagery from 2000-2001 was then used to update the islands road network as well as differentiate between main highways, secondary highways, paved, and unpaved roads.

geonode:the_3_lmes_1
CLME: The 3 Large Marine Ecosystems of the Wider Caribbean
LMEs are natural regions of ocean space encompassing coastal waters from river basins and estuaries to the seaward boundary of continental shelves and the outer margins of coastal currents. They are relatively large regions of 200,000 km2 or greater, the natural boundaries of which are based on four ecological criteria: bathymetry, hydrography, productivity, and trophically related populations.
The theory, measurement, and modeling relevant to monitoring the changing states of LMEs are imbedded in reports on ecosystems with multiple steady states, and on the pattern formation and spatial diffusion within ecosystems. The concept that critical processes controlling the structure and function of biological communities can best be addressed on a regional basis has been applied to the ocean by using LMEs as the distinct units for marine resources assessment, monitoring, and management.
Combining this layer with a land file will provide an approximate representation of the marine coverage of these LMEs.

geonode:water_quality
TV_TTO_Tobago_South-West_Bathing_Beach_Water_Quality_2017-2018
The bacteriological water quality and physico–chemical parameters were measured along the south western coast of Tobago, to monitor and evaluate bathing beach water quality and identify possible sources of faecal contamination. One bacterial indicator namely enterococci was chosen for this study, and was analysed by defined substrate technology (Enterolert) in accordance with the IDEXX protocol. The physico–chemical parameters collected were pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, salinity, turbidity and rainfall. Single day sampling was collected at 12 offshore locations during the wet and dry season for 2017 and 2018. Bacterial concentrations at four of the twelve sampling stations were not within the USEPA water quality standards for recreational use during the wet season.
